Unleashing Innovation at the UConn Tech Pitch Day
The University of Connecticut’s Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (TIE) Collaborative Pitch Day is a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. This annual event provides a platform for student entrepreneurs to showcase their cutting-edge ideas and secure funding to transform their visions into reality.
This year’s TIE Pitch Day featured a diverse array of student-led ventures, ranging from Green Grid Farms, a sustainable urban farming solution, to Puppy Palace, a innovative pet care service. The event also welcomed nursing students, thanks to a partnership with the Nursing and Engineering Innovation Center, further expanding the reach of entrepreneurial opportunities on campus.
“These students have worked hard over one or two semesters building technology-enabled ventures in areas that require significant innovation to drive change,” remarked Dr. Leila Daneshmandi, Assistant Professor in Residence of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the College of Engineering and Director of the Entrepreneurship Hub (eHub).
The event was judged by a panel of distinguished professionals, including engineering faculty, industry leaders, and even young inventors from the Connecticut Invention Convention. This unique collaboration fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas, with the judges providing valuable feedback and guidance to the student entrepreneurs.
Notably, the event also highlighted the entrepreneurial achievements of alumni ventures, such as ParticleN, Genesist, and Toribio Labs Zemi Platforms, further demonstrating the long-lasting impact of the university’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Igniting Innovation at the Iowa State IGNITE Showcase
At Iowa State University, the annual IGNITE Innovation Showcase is a celebration of the diverse creativity and innovative spirit that permeates the campus. This five-day event, hosted by the Student Innovation Center, showcases the incredible work being done by students across various disciplines, from engineering marvels to artistic expressions.
The IGNITE Showcase provides a dynamic platform for students to display their projects, engage with experts, and connect with like-minded individuals. Through captivating displays, interactive activities, and networking receptions, the event fosters a collaborative environment that ignites the entrepreneurial spirit within the Iowa State community.
One of the key highlights of the IGNITE Showcase is the Innovation Challenge, where students have the opportunity to compete for up to $15,000 in seed funding and year-round access to resources and advisors to develop their Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or Minimum Viable Experience (MVX).
“Innovation happens here, and we’re celebrating it during the annual IGNITE Innovation Showcase,” the university proudly proclaims. This event not only showcases the remarkable talents of Iowa State’s students but also underscores the university’s commitment to cultivating a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Celebrating Entrepreneurial Excellence at the Duke Startup Showcase
The Duke Startup Showcase is the most anticipated event of the year for Duke University’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. This dynamic event brings together over 500 members of the entrepreneurial community, including investors, founders, and students, to witness the power of entrepreneurship at Duke.
The Startup Showcase is the culmination of a rigorous selection process, where 61 aspiring ventures applied to participate, with 36 making it to the quarterfinals and 12 semifinalists pitching to a panel of distinguished judges. The six finalists were awarded more than $100,000 in non-dilutive prizes and the opportunity to present their pitches live to a captivated audience.
The global impact of the ventures showcased was truly remarkable, with ideas not only focused on the domestic market but also exploring opportunities in countries across Africa and Asia. Ventures such as Bern, which provides tech and socialization for children through an AI teddy bear, and Sirrona, which aims to revolutionize cancer treatment, demonstrated the breadth and depth of entrepreneurial talent at Duke.
“The quality of ventures and pitches at Duke’s Startup Showcase was unbelievable,” shared Tobi Walter, Partner at Cofounders Capital. “I don’t see better ventures, traction, or pitches from some of the serial entrepreneurs who we invest in. Seeing that quality in student ventures was incredibly inspiring!”
The event’s success was made possible through the generous support of Duke donors and champions of innovation, including the late Professor Frank Borchardt, whose legacy gift established the annual prizes for top undergraduate entrepreneurs.
Celebrating Entrepreneurial Excellence at the Davidson Entrepreneurs Network Showcase
The Davidson Entrepreneurs Network Showcase Celebration is a testament to the thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem within the Hurt Hub@Davidson community. The showcase features a multifaceted agenda, including a networking session, an IdeaSprint Student Showcase, and the announcement of winners for the Avinger, CATS Pitch, and IdeaSprint Showcase competitions. This celebration of entrepreneurial excellence provides a platform for students, seasoned entrepreneurs, and community members to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another.
“Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur, curious student, or community member, don’t miss this celebration of entrepreneurial excellence at the Hurt Hub!” the event organizers enthusiastically invite.
